Ryley Carlock Document Review Breaks Q3 Record

Ryley Carlock Document Control Group (DCG) Reviews A Record Number of Gigabytes of Data in the Third Quarter of 2009

In the sweltering heat of Phoenix, Arizona, there is something else that has heated up - the amount of data going through Ryley Carlock & Applewhite's Document Review Center for Electronic Discovery.

Nationally acclaimed and in it's fifth year of operation, the DCG employs up to 80 lawyers who review electronic data for corporations and law firms involved in litigation. Using a combination of highly trained project managers and advanced technology to reduce the amount of data to be reviewed, the firm estimates it saves companies 30 percent in terms of time and cost for each large scale review. It reports an increase of reviewed data of 25 percent over last year's same period.

"This has been a very busy quarter for our review team," said Matthew Clarke, a Ryley Carlock shareholder and co-founder of the DCG.  Complex cases that require thoughtful review bring matters to us from all over the world.  The DCG does not divulge client names, but has assisted some of the world's largest technology companies in intellectual property cases, as well as other Fortune 100 companies, and several of the nation's elite law firms.

"The economy demands better attention to efficiency and judgment and to project management in the practice of law," added William McManus the DCG's other co-founder.  "We are finding many industries have tried other models and agencies and find that our approach, using a branded law firm, doing the work domestically, and maximizing good technology, is a safe and cost-effective way to reduce discovery costs -- the model can be used in other areas of the law as well."

McManus and Clarke said the amount of data passed through the pipes in Q3 was a new record for the firm's Phoenix facility, but they expect that record to be broken.  "Unfortunately for business, the need to understand electronic data in the context of litigation just keeps growing.  Fortunately, there is an efficient answer," they said.
