Ryley Carlock & Applewhite Sponsors Opening Session of Colorado Mining Association's 120th National Western Mining Conference & Exhibition

Ryley Carlock & Applewhite sponsored the Opening Session of the Colorado Mining Association’s (CMA) 120th National Western Mining Conference & Exhibition on April 3 - 5, 2018. The conference attracted approximately 350 attendees, plus dozens of exhibitors for the mining industry. Ryley Carlock & Applewhite Shareholder Jim Sanderson is a long-time member of the CMA Board of Directors and is Vice Chairman for Governmental Affairs.

The CMA Conference focused on new applications of technology and use of modern mining practices to reduce the footprint of mining. Presenters also spoke to the challenge of recruiting a new generation of miners to replace retirements from the Baby Boom generation.

The opening session of the conference is particularly popular because representatives from all of the active mines in Colorado provide a summary of their status and plans for the coming year.

On April 5, Jim Sanderson moderated a panel on the topic of Legal and Policy Updates and the Search for Sustainability in Public Policy Decisions, given the long lead time for making mining investments. The panel was composed of Kathleen Benedetto, Senior Advisor to the Director of the Bureau of Land Management in Washington, DC; Jerry Mullins, Vice President for Government Affairs and External Relations with the National Mining Association; John Swartout, Rural Policy & Outreach Director for Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper; and Debra Struhsacker, an Environmental Permitting & Government Relations and Geology Consultant from Nevada.
