Biography
Jon is a shareholder of Ryley Carlock & Applewhite, as a member of the firm's Intellectual Property and Business practice groups. Prior to joining the firm in 2011, he was a shareholder of Isaacson Rosenbaum P.C.
Corporate
Jon works extensively in corporate and business law, providing counseling, governance, and transactional services for commercial enterprises, professional service firms, non-profit institutions, and entrepreneurs.
His business work encompasses choice of entity and business structuring; agreements among owners of closely-held companies; contracts and licenses for a myriad of different business arrangements; corporate acquisitions and sales; and implementation of other commercial projects.
Intellectual Property
Jon specializes in intellectual property law with an emphasis on copyright, providing counseling; rights analysis for IP owners and claimants; and transactional and dispute resolution services. He assists owners and licensees of intellectual properties with the legal services necessary to monetize IP assets through brand, content, and technology licensing.
Publishing
Since 1988 Jon has worked in and become an expert in the niche field of book publishing, and represents publishers, agencies, packagers, distributors, trade associations, authors, artists, and photographers on business, intellectual property, contractual, and rights matters germane to publishing and licensing content for print and digital media.
Software and Information Technology
Jon's software and information technology practice is a natural extension of his corporate and intellectual property work. He represents vendors, and institutional and other business consumers, of software and information technology and related support services on the commercial, legal, contractual, and proprietary aspects of licensing and transfer projects.
Clientele
Jon represents clients engaged in a wide range of industries, including publishing; software development; Internet; acoustic technology; retailing; hospitality; manufacturing; banking; healthcare; performing arts; accounting; engineering; consulting; human resources; and project management. He is privileged to work with clients situated in Colorado and around the United States.
Teaching
Since 1994 Jon has been teaching regularly about his fields of practice. Today he serves on the faculty and teaches publishing and copyright law for the University of Denver Publishing Institute, and lectures for publishing trade associations and for the Colorado Bar Association - Continuing Legal Education. Jon has also taught publishing law and finance in developing countries on behalf of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) division of the United Nations.
